Setting up the Webphone: app, permissions, microphone and sound

Everything you need to set up the Webphone on your computer: the right browser, the required permissions, a working microphone, and proper audio settings. All in one place.

The Webphone works in a computer browser only — not on tablet or mobile.

Installing the Webphone as an app

You can add the Webphone as a standalone app on your desktop, so you can open it quickly without launching your browser first.

  • Log in to Chrome on your MyRinkel and enable the Webphone in the bottom right.

  • Go through the permissions.

  • Click the square-with-arrow icon at the end of the address bar, or the three dots.

  • Click Cast, save and share -> Install page as app.

Tip: want the Webphone to open automatically when you log in on your Mac? Right-click the Dock icon, go to Options and choose Open at Login.

Setting up permissions for the Webphone

Before you can make calls, give Chrome permission for your microphone, sound and notifications.

  • Log in to MyRinkel.

  • Click the Webphone in the bottom right, then click Enable.

  • Toggle on Microphone, Sound and Notifications.

Setting up microphone and sound in the Webphone

New headset? Sound through your speakers? Adjust it in a few clicks.

  • Log in to MyRinkel.

  • Enable the Webphone in the bottom right.

  • Click your profile photo or initials.

  • Go to Profile, then Webphone.

  • Open the Webphone and click the cog icon in the top left.

  • Select your microphone and audio device under Microphone & sound.

  • Test your microphone by speaking — the dots will light up if it's working.

  • Test your sound with the Test button next to the selected audio device.

  • Click Save.

Ringtone through your speakers, call audio through your headset? Go to Incoming and select the right speaker under Play Webphone ringtone on. Don't forget to click Save.

Microphone still not working?

Given Chrome access to your microphone but it's still not working? The issue is in your computer's system settings.

Windows

  • Click the Windows icon in the bottom left and open Settings (cog).

  • Go to Privacy, then Microphone.

  • Select Change and tick Allow apps to access your microphone.

  • Make sure Chrome is on the list of allowed apps.

Mac

  • Click the Apple icon in the top left and choose System Settings.

  • Go to Privacy & Security, then Privacy.

  • Choose Microphone and tick Google Chrome.

  • Restart Chrome if it still doesn't work.
