Setting up and managing call forwarding

How do you set up call forwarding via the Rinkel app or MyRinkel, what call routing options are available and what is and isn’t possible?

Written by Shay Phan

Your call forwarding determines which phones ring when someone calls your Rinkel number. You manage it in the Rinkel app or in MyRinkel on your computer — the steps are the same in both.

What call order options do I have?

  • Simultaneously: all phones ring at once. Whoever picks up first takes the call.

  • One by one: phones ring from top to bottom one at a time, each for the duration of the ring time (20 seconds by default).

What happens when nobody answers is set up under Unanswered (for example: forward to voicemail, hang up the call or transfer it to a user or phone number).

How many numbers can I add to call forwarding?

You can forward to a maximum of phones equal to the number of users in your subscription. Three users = three numbers in call forwarding. Need more? Add a user to your subscription.

Setting up call forwarding

Open the Rinkel app or go to MyRinkel on your computer, and click on your initials or profile photo. Then:

  1. Go to Number settings and choose the right number from the dropdown menu.

  2. Click Call forwarding.

  3. Click Add user or number and choose a user or enter a phone number. Click Save.

  4. Remove a user or number: click the three dots next to the user/number and choose Remove from list.

  5. Temporarily disable: slide the toggle next to the user to the left. Handy if someone's out for the day or in a meeting — or the user can set their status to unavailable for that day.

  6. Change the order (only works with the 'One by one' logic): click the three dots next to a user/name to move them up or down.

Good to know

  • Using status instead of the toggle: for a short absence, you can also set your status to unavailable (click on your initials or profile photo). You'll be automatically removed from call forwarding, and if you set a time, you'll be added back automatically.

  • The voicemail on someone's mobile in call forwarding can swallow calls. If a mobile is switched off or out of signal and that number has a personal voicemail, it will intercept the call — the system sees this as answered and won't move on to the next person. Tip: switch off personal voicemail on phones in call forwarding, or temporarily remove the user when they're unreachable.

  • Working part-time or in call forwarding at fixed times? On the Expert plan, you can set a fixed weekly schedule via Profile → My schedule. Outside your schedule, you're automatically removed from call forwarding.
